PELOType Display - Data dressed in beautiful form
PELOType Display is a custom display font originally design to present recorded numeric information for a speculative social mobile cycling app. It was developed as a visual extension for the Peloton identity as a means to capitalize upon the display of data which the app would generate. The visual translation of this information through the form of a custom typeface was a logical means of increasing the scope of branding for the Peloton project.
All UX / UI and visual elements developed for the Peloton project extend from mechanics of the circle. Gears, wheels, rims, tires, pivots, extruded metal, and all of the inherent motions of cycling describing rotational movements have inspired the structure of the display type. The geometrics designed into the letterforms accrue from pure geometrical elements: circles, squares, and combinations thereof. The type forms are all designed to align perfectly with the pixel grids of display screens, preserving the crispness in the edges of the forms to enhance legibility when using the app while cycling.
PELOSANS type is designed to be used with a defined and consistent grid system. This may require a custom type size and leading standards for the letterforms to perform at their optimum capacity. Usage of the PELOSANS type will pair effectively with most classical and contemporary text typefaces that are designed with standard proportions for maximized legibility and clarity. As the proportions of PELOSANS are extreme in form, a healthy degree of contrast and strength will be achieved when set along side any serif type.
PELOSANS type is the first of a series of bespoke display typefaces that will be released as components of the Peloton project. They are a labor of love. And they work! You should use them. PELOSANS type is a custom typeface designed to be used loudly and with intention. The extreme orientation and vertical proportions of the letterforms will allow for increased sizes without sacrificing horizontal space.
