A visual and vocal guide for conducting a successful workshop series
The development of a voice and tone guide for a writing workshop series constituted an effort spanning a number of months. The work culminated in a series of tools assisting designers and writers offering guidance for ensuring a consistent voice for adapting tone into context. A writing checklist, tone guidelines, poster guideline aids, and a facilitated workshop series was designed and organized, implemented within a program to keep designers current on writing standards.
As in-class tools would be required on an ongoing basis, the graphic standards provided a roadmap for updating materials in a consistent manner. While the content would change and develop over time, it was agreed that the presentation of the content should be communicated and presented in a familiar visual program that reflected those being produced for the product. A key visual element featured throughout the program was the work of illustrator Adela Kang, newly-adopted into the visual language.
Workshop presentations were designed consistently, formatted in both Sketch and Google slides for efficient access.
Leading up to the voice & tone workshops interviews with key stakeholders were conducted in an effort to gain insight into the perceived culture, personality, and value produced from across the organization. Several weeks were devoted to these conversations in which transcriptions from the interviews alongside our detailed notes began to paint a picture of the overall company perception. These insights fed directly into the workshop series, informing the overall voice and tone of the content and teaching materials.
