STAR Company - A site redesign leveraging simplicity as a business asset
STAR Company provides a full suite of services for customers preferring to outsource bookkeeping needs. Providing services both focussed and full cycle, STAR Company have built their reputation through a committed practice with up-to-date bookkeeping knowledge. Working in both practical hands-on and advisory capacities, this enterprise has built up over 35 years experience collectively. In order to more dynamically and accurately reflect the skill accrued over the company’s operation, a re-design of the website was asked for.
The main challenge within the project was to built a dynamic, device-ready site at a cost-effective price, while also allowing all administrators within the organization the opportunity to effortlessly upload, change, and add new content. Very early within the project planning stages the decision to adapt a SquareSpace platform was agreed upon. This not only reduced design and development costs, it provided value within its simple functionality in both usage and content management. As the STAR Company corporate identity had already been established, the site design required a visual language that would compliment and extend the visual language into web-based patterns, colour usage, and typographic standards that would work effortlessly alongside those established for print and communications.
Working closely with Rob Hayes who developed the site, a clean, light, and focussed design was created that highlighted the offerings of the company. Rob and I developed and presented a series of wireframes that adapted seamlessly within the SquareSpace environment, planning a visual language for the site that consistently presented the company and key partner vision. Largely a typographic exercise, messaging is broken up into main call-outs, itemized lists, and partner introductions. The use of greyscale became the palette of choice after the partners became familiar with the presentation of wireframes within the early phase of the design process. As the brand is composed of greyscale visual assets, the extended use of grey fits comfortably with the brand language.
