A summit focused on UX design experiences a bespoke identity and program roll-out
Recharge 19 was the first community event sponsored by leadership and the product experience team at Ultimate Software. Planned as a one-day event with invited speakers delivering talks on user experience design, the summit culminated in a workshop involving all attendees. The brand team spotted an opportunity to develop a distinct identity for the event and a design program for all related print material and digital communications. A direction was chosen that integrated icons and graphic elements referencing the climactic and weather conditions of the Miami-based venue. Symbols of lightning and diagonal lines representing rain were incorporated into the visual language, as well as organic shapes under exploration for the identity of the product currently in design. Various shades of teal green were used in order to relate back to the updated primary colours of the product, with blue folded in as secondary colours.
A twelve-page booklet was designed for the event, which included a word of welcome to all participants, scheduling information and speaker bios, as well as lined pages onto which participant could make notes. The design was rejected, however the aesthetic sensibilities were applied to print posters, site signage, as well as email communication leading up to the event.
Custom lanyards were designed and printed allowing participants to write their names. The lanyard also contained a series of quirky, unexpected questions. The answers written for these questions soon opened up opportunities for dialog and engagement for attendees between speaker talks. A series of stickers were also designed for the event, and handed out upon registration. They contained snippets of the emerging product illustration with words evoking sentiments the new visual direction was seeking to inspire.
