BrainStation Portal Proposal - A speculative exercise for improving student experience
BrainStation offer intensive courses in web and product development, user experience, and user interface design. As part of the experience, a student portal has been developed in order to provide students direct access to course material and the interchange of assets. As a component of the User Experience Immersive bootcamp, a design sprint challenge requested a re-design of the student portal. The brief sought an enhanced student experience leveraging social interchange and sharing positioned as the main design driver.
Working collaboratively with UXI participant Robert Corrado, a design proposal was developed whereby the function of “search” was leveraged as a key design attribute. The design positioned searching by week, day, subject, or content type as the main navigation throughout the site. Students were offered the ability to share content through a community space, work in progress “project board”, and “notes” sharing space as a means of enhancing student participation and opportunity to learn collectively.
A clean, ordered, and comprehensive proposal was developed adhering to the established BrainStation brand. A controlled design aesthetic allowed posted content to be showcased in a clean and efficient manner. As the bootcamp experience can be overwhelming due to the pace and amount of delivered content, our design proposal sought to eliminate distractions in order to focus on course material students require to succeed.
